Ships and Sunshine

Beautiful Sunshine when I woke this morning, although it seems windy.  I am not too good with weather reporting, I just look out of the window, no fancy gadgets to help.  Not like the weather channels, although they don't always get it right do they? 

Today I have added a Flower for May.

Not to be confused with The Mayflower which was the ship that sailed with the Pilgrims from Plymouth to the New World in 1620. Ha Ha!!

I have worked this one is double knitting cotton.

Materials Required

Approx. 16metres of double knitting yarn I have used cotton but any DK will work

4.00 hook

Measurement

Approx 3 inches (7.5cms)

1. Ch. 2, work 12 dc.  into 2nd ch. from hook, ss. into front loop of 1st dc.

2. Working in front loop for this round only work 1ch., 1dc. in same place as slip stitch,  *work 5tr. in next dc. 1dc. in next dc., repeat from * ending with 5tr., ss. into 1^st dc.    ( 6 petals )

3. Working behind petals for this round and in back loops of stitches left on round 2, work 1ch. 1dc. in the same place as ss. *3ch. miss 1dc., work 1dc. in next dc. repeat all round ending 3ch. ss. into 1^st dc. ( 6 loops )

4. Ss into 1^st loop work 1ch., (1dc. 1htr. 5tr. 1htr. 1dc.) in each loop.  ss. into 1^st dc.

5. 1ch. 1dc. in dc. on round 3 and working behind row 4 petals work *4ch. 1dc. in next dc. at the other side of petal on 3rd round repeat from * ending with 4ch. ss. in 1^st. dc.

6. Work (1dc., 7tr., and 1dc.) in each loop all round ss. into 1st dc. Fasten off.

If you want to make the flower bigger don't fasten off continue to repeat rounds 5 and 6 increasing the number of chain stitches 5ch on round 7 and 9 trebles on round 8.

Fasten off and darn in the ends..

I am starting to forget which patterns have been free flowers so forgive me please if I have added this one before.

Free Bunting Pattern

Hello,

I have created a bunting pattern for a future show in August.  I have been making lots of different colours, its great way to use up oddments of yarn.

Materials Required

Oddments of double knitting yarn

approx. 10 meters of main colour

4.00 hook

Measurement

3 to 4 inches (9 to 10 cms)

Turn at the end of each row

1.  2ch., 1dc. in 2^nd ch. from hook.
2. 1ch., 2dc. in dc.
3. 1ch., 2dc. in 1^st dc., 1dc. in last dc. (3dc)
4. 1ch., 2dc. in 1^st dc.,  1dc. in each dc. to end. (4dc)
5. 1ch., 2dc. in 1^st dc.,  1dc. in each dc. to end. (5dc)

Rep. row 5 until you have 16dc., fasten off.

Border

Fasten the border colour to the top right hand corner of your flag, work 1ch., 2dc. in same place, 1dc. in 14dc., 3dc. in last st., 1dc. in each row end, 3dc. in bottom point, 1dc. in each row end to top of flag 1dc. in same place as 1^st 2dc., ss. to join in 1^st dc. Fasten off.

Fringe

Cut 6 x 6inch lengths of yarn fold in half and with wrong side of your flag facing put hook through the bottom point stitch, pull the folded end through, pick up the loose ends with the hook and pull through the loop. trim ends to tidy.

Joining

I have worked a length of chain and spaced the flags along it as I worked the chain by catching the top corners with a dc. or treble.

How to crochet a Spring Flower

This is a tutorial of how to make a simple spring crocheted flower that I designed on the train going to London a few weeks ago.

You will need a 3.50 hook and a few oddments of double knitting in any colour you like.

Just a reminder all my patterns are in UK terminology.

Stitches used and the abbreviations...

ABBREVIATIONS

ch.  =    Chain

dc   =    Double Crochet

htr.   =   Half treble

rep.  =   Repeat

ss.    =   Slip Stitch

st.   =   Stitches

tr.  =    Treble

To begin with make a slip knot and put onto your hook and make 2 chain.

Then 8 dc (Double crochet) into the 2nd chain from hook, ss to join in 1st dc.

To start the next row  2ch.

      Then , 2htr. in same place, *2htr. in next dc., rep. from * to end, ss. to join in 1^st htr.  (You should have 16sts)

      

      This row you work in front loops of sts. for this round, 1ch., 1dc., in front loop of 1^st st., * 3ch., 1dc. in next st., rep. from * ending 3ch., ss. to join in 1^st dc.

      The final row you  work in back loops for this round, 1ch., ss. into back loop of 1^st st. on 2^nd round, 3ch., 3tr. in same place, * 4tr. in next loop, rep. from * in each loop, ss. to join in 3^rd ch., Fasten off

      This is the finished flower. The flower could have lots of different uses such as decorating hats, cards or blankets.
